Etsy News: Talking Tech and Search Improvements

Etsy News

March 9, 2009

Hello Etsians,

I have two tech-related news items to share today: some changes to Etsy's search functionality and an in-depth update from Etsy's CTO, Chad Dickerson.

Earlier today we rolled out some improvements to search on Etsy, including:
 * Search dropdown menu choice has been made persistent.
 * Search result sort order has been made persistent.
 * A price filter has been added to search results for Materials.

Sean Flannagan from Etsy's Product Team also discusses many further improvements to search yet to come. Sellers take note: Sean writes about weighting and relevancy in future search results and how changes to search may impact the listing process for sellers.

On Friday, March 13 at 3:00 pm EDT we will begin a series of special sessions in Etsy's Virtual Labs for members to test and discuss different searches. Join us and be part of the ongoing process of improving search on Etsy!  (Check when this is in your time zone: http://tr.im/haow.)

In addition to the search improvements, Etsy's CTO (Chief Technology Officer), Chad Dickerson delivered an update today from Etsy's Engineering Team about some recent technical enhancements made to improve site performance and scalability for future growth.

You may view Chad's "Talking Tech" article in full on Etsy's blog, The Storque:

Improving Etsy is an ongoing process. There’s nothing quite like the feeling you get when you find that perfect, one-of-a-kind item on Etsy, and we want more people around the world to experience it.

Kind regards,
Lauren
