Dear Sellers,

Today Lou and Mary will be chatting about Etsy merchandizing in the Virtual Labs (please join us at 1pm EDT), so I've had trends and merchandising on the brain. I've collected sites to help you think about color and fashion trends - not that we should immediate make items to follow trends, but it definitely can help in making marketable design choices.

How can trends help sales?

Here's an interesting example, we recently published Trends: The Cream Colored Dress in our blog. Perhaps your a designer already making gowns and this trend can inspire you to create an off-white frock. Great! But what about the bag, the gems, the shoes! Perhaps using a model wearing this color gown will help you get noticed by fashion blogs? The reported trend is the tip of the iceberg, I encourage you sellers, to run with upcoming trends in a creative way!

Trend Hunting

Trends are more than just what's coming down the runway! The internet has created pockets of communities that follow thousands of different trends. Head over to Trendhunter.com, if you need convincing, where you'll find everything from inflatable clound umbrellas to vampire jewelry!

ColorLovers.com is another site to get your creative sparks flying! This is a great resource for spotting hot color trends. Check out their Top Palettes, Top Colors and Trends section.

Social Shopping Trends

Social shopping sites are a great way to get in touch with what's hot. Check out trends on ThisNext, find out the most popular tags on Stylehive, and most popular tags and stores on Kaboodle! I love these features. In fact these Circus Peanut Soaps were the first thing to catch my eye on the front page of Kaboodle.

Have another tip for spotting trends? Send them my way!

xo,
Danielle
