Craft Party is a time to get to know your neighbors and exercise your creative spirit. This year's Craft Party theme is "Wish You Were Here." We encourage you to work together on projects that reflect your hometown. Think about local and regional crafts, music, style and food; ways to pay tribute to a notable landmark or place; an activity that tells local lore through handmade means; or any creative project that has local flavor. Could this theme be more perfect for our local Etsy teams? Check out the
Craft Party 2012 page for additional details. First, here are some quick tips for groups hoping to host in their hometown.
- Nominate an organizer to set up the
Meetup listing. Delegate other tasks to volunteers on the team so the production is a real team effort.
- Consider your attendees. Will your Craft Party be open to the public community or just team members? A private gathering can be a great way to get to know your teammates and share your skills. If you're ready to attract new members or make a name for yourselves in your hometown, open it up and invite as many as you'd like. The more the merrier!
- Secure a location. While a member's kitchen might be the perfect spot for some meetups, a larger event space might be best for others. Talk to local businesses or galleries about partnering with your team for the event. They might offer space if your team can provide the craft and clean up.
- Do some promotional legwork. Be sure to continually update your team page with the details, include them in your newsletter, and get the word out. A poster in a coffee or craft shop can go a long way in attracting curious newcomers.
- Take a ton of photos. We wish we were there and hope to see you represent your hometown!
