| | July 17, 2009 Come Craft With Us at the Etsy Labs on Monday On Monday, July 20, we will be stitching up some recycled drink coasters with our pal Leslie Henkel of Spacecraft's monthly Craft on Draught. Join us at this crafty social mixer to celebrate the season of backyard parties, barbecues, picnics and frisky biz! We'll provide you with pre-felted, recycled sweaters and crafting tools, and instructions to make felted drink coasters and cozies. If you haven't put away all of your sweaters for the season, feel free to bring along your own pre-felted ugly Christmas sweaters. Don't live in New York? We hope to see you in the Virtual Labs at 5 p.m. ET! More details on Craft Night and a quick felting how-to here. Please note: Craft Night will be canceled from 8/3 through 9/13, during our move to Dumbo, Brooklyn. Crafting for a Cause at the Etsy Labs on Wednesday Join Global Goods Partners (GGP) at the Etsy Labs for a craft workshop in support of women artisans in the developing world. Participants will learn the art of African friendship bracelet weaving from The Yarn Tree's Linda LaBelle, and enjoy a presentation on Fair Trade women's artisan cooperatives in Asia, Africa and the Americas. Proceeds support artisans in low-resource communities, funding much-needed education, healthcare, gender equality and income-generation projects. Learn more details about this event here. Summer in the City Salon Series at the American Craft Council's Library As issues of sustainability become more and more prominent, join the American Craft Council for an evening exploring the relationships between craft, community, and the new eco-movement, as part of their Summer in the City Salon Series on Craft's Contribution to a Sustainable World. Father Andrew More O'Connor, a visual artist and Diocesian priest in the Bronx, will discuss his innovative project, Goods of Conscience, which employs Guatemalan Mayan weavers to sew apparel collections that "look good, feel good, and do good." His talk will focus on the role of the handmade in social and environmental stewardship. More details here. 72 Spring Street, 6th floor, New York, NY 10012.
