August 5, 2009 Craft with Etsy and the MAD Museum with Sabrina Gschwandtner Craft Night at the Etsy Labs on Gold St. may be on hold until September 14 when we move to our new office, but fear not many crafty opportunities abound! Etsy has joined forces with the Museum of Art and Design to present a weekly series of hands-on workshops we're calling DIY Thursdays. Drop in between 6-8 p.m. each Thursday in August for some down and dirty, do-it-yourself fun in the museum's studios. The workshops are free with pay-what-you-wish admission to the museum. Click here for directions. The series kicks off on Thursday, August 6 with a workshop led by artist Sabrina Gschwandtner, founder and editor of KnitKnit. Sabrina will demonstrate a few simple ways to combine textile art and jewelry into one beautiful project: crocheted jewelry. Sabrina will be teaching how to make earrings and boutonnieres that are perfect for summer weddings, picnics, and barbecues. Materials will be provided. Not a New Yorker? Don't worry, you can still join in on the fun by meeting us at 5:30 p.m. ET on Monday in the Virtual Labs, Etsy's online classrooms, for a live demo of the project. Upcoming Classes in New York Etsy at 3rd Ward is a craft education program born from Etsy.com and 3rd Ward's shared spirit of hands-on innovation hosted at 3rd Ward in Brooklyn, NY.
