Chinese New Year, also known as Spring Festival or Lunar New Year, is a fifteen day festival celebrating renewal and the new year: ancestors are honored, families gather and feasting commences as firecrackers snap in the night. Children eagerly awaken to receive red packets filled with cash from their elders. Red lanterns and candles dress windows for the Lantern Festival, and canine friends are treated with extra special kindness, as this is the time of year that is considered the birthday of all dogs. This year marks the Chinese zodiac Year of the Tiger (February 14, 2010 to February 2, 2011), so our feline friends will also get a chance to bathe in the limelight.
