A PACKAGE-BATTING GUIDE WITH DIANNA
One quilt. The right package.
Hi quilting friends, Dianna here!
Picking packaged batting gets easier when you start with the finish you want. Here’s a quick guide to five Hobbs package options—and the projects each one suits best.

A classic, cozy finish
Heirloom 80/20 package
A versatile starting point for everyday bed quilts and throws. Choose natural 80/20 for a traditional, low-loft finish; expect about 3–5% shrinkage after washing for that familiar quilted texture.

White or pale quilt tops
Heirloom Bleached 80/20 package
Choose this when your quilt has white backgrounds or very light fabrics. Its whiter batting layer helps preserve their brightness. Test a fabric-and-batting sandwich before you commit.

Black and deep-color quilt tops
Heirloom Black 80/20 package
Pair dark fabrics with dark batting to help avoid visible light fibers. For a top that mixes dark and pale blocks, check the batting under both before choosing.

Quilting with beautiful dimension
Heirloom Wool package
A lovely choice when you want the quilting pattern to stand out. Wool offers springy loft and a light feel. Follow the wool care instructions, especially when making a gift.

A project you want to baste by pressing
Heirloom Fusible 80/20 package
The fusible coating on both sides lets you adhere the top and backing to the batting with an iron. It is useful when you want help holding the layers together before quilting. Follow the package’s pressing directions; do not prewash the batting.

Dianna’s finishing tip
Measure first, choose the package second. Use the actual batting dimensions—not just “twin” or “queen.” Your batting needs to extend beyond the quilt top on every side. If a longarm quilter is finishing it, ask how much extra they require before ordering.
Your next quilt starts with the right layers. Save 45% on Hobbs packaged batting and choose the type and size that fit your project.
