I will always remember my fifth grade history teacher, Mr. Frost. He always wrote with fat, sidewalk style chalk and made a point of how the skinny kind was "not up to par." One day the chalk was stolen (cue foreboding music). An in-class courtroom drama unfolded over the following week, whereupon students interrogated one another on the witness stand (a chair with a music lectern in front of it), and I got the opportunity to wear a derby hat and carry a briefcase to school. This was my first opportunity to be a faux-lawyer, and it started my fascination with debate and speech.
