Some of my fondest memories of summer are the grand family reunions of my youth. We'd descend upon the local park, set out a web of haphazardly placed blankets in patchwork and gingham prints, then proceed to gossip, have impromptu hot dog eating contests and languidly sunbathe while floating in the adjacent pool. Now is the perfect time to take advantage of mild weather and your seldom utilized backyard, deck, local beach or grassy knoll. Today's Etsy Finds chronicle the many varieties of outdoor get-togethers and what you'll need to get your next party started. Check out our Summer Entertaining Showcase for more quality picks.
Saucy BBQ
Get out the barbecue sauce and hit the deck: it's grilling time! Foods like hamburgers, hot dogs and veggies require little preparation, leaving lots of time for leisurely lounging and socializing with friends. Check out the Americana Guide for more red, white and blue picks.
Candlelit Garden Party
A cosmopolitan dinner party need not take place in a stuffy dining room. Make your backyard your playground with candlelight, martinis, literary conversation and tabletop accessories from Etsy. Check out The Summer Soiree Guide for more sophisticated dinner party picks.
Picnic in the Park
Get out your gingham and head for the nearest patch of green grass! Picnics are casual shindigs, and they're best complemented by easy to eat finger foods, croquet and a day of lazy sunbathing under the summer sun. Check out the Alfresco Guide for more outdoor games and accessories.
Nautical Clambake
Clambakes are a beach affair, so take in the crisp, salty breeze with a hefty dose of buttery lobster, tangy oysters and fresh clams. (It's quite a messy meal, so leave pretense behind and be sure to bring a bib!) Browse the Classically Nautical Guide and Food and Wine's Clambake Guide for more seaside inspiration.
