| | June 22, 2010 It was probably after reading Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil that my romance with Southern culture began. As a Northerner, I imagined haunted Victorian mansions on streets lined with antebellum oaks, draped in Spanish moss. Cooing, unhurried accents caressed those corridors, and the smell of old-fashioned rose drifted along epic white balustrades. These vistas set the perfect stage for mystery, intrigue and quixotic tales of vampires and voodoo.
