Lately I've heard a lot of talk about renewing items. If you set a renewing budget and only renew when you don't have a new item you could list instead, renewing can help your shop get seen. However, I'd like to suggest alternatives (or additions so you might not have to renew as often). I want to note that we here at Etsy are working on other interesting and innovative ways for buyers to find the Etsy items they'll love and purchase and interesting and innovative ways for sellers to promote their work on Etsy. Until then, I'd like to share some tips on getting your items views without having to spend a pretty penny renewing.

. Tagging for Views
Make sure you are using all 14 tags. Your item's tags are directly related to search. If you aren't using all 14 you are missing opportunities! Helpful article: Guidelines & Tips: Tagging on Etsy. Also, make sure those tags relate to your item's style, specific colors, textures, size and themes/motifs. Helpful article: Tag-O-Rama with Descriptive Keywords

. Sell Local
Buying local is a trend that is sure to stick. People are becoming interested in new ways to keep money within their communities. Check that these people can find you! In your profile, verify that your location is set to City, State, Country. That way buyers who are using Geolocator or Shop Local are going to be able to discover you. Helpful article: Sell Local.

.Create Content
The more content you create to float out there in the world wide web the more people are going to bump into you. If the content is interesting (or funny, smart, weird) people will want to know more about you and will find your Etsy shop in the process. Best part? Creating this content is free! What do I mean by content? Anything from a tweet to popping up a photo on Flickr to just commenting on a few blogs you love. Just make sure it's not spammy. Nothing will get ignored faster! One last helpful article: Pimp My Shop (I promise to give this article a makeover for 2010!)
