January 28, 2009 Hello Friends, I hope this message finds you well. I'm here to talk to you all today about a few things. The Etsy Team Grants program. I have been spending a great deal of time rethinking the way that grants can best support the Teams here at Etsy. For those of you who don't know, each month we assist creative, dedicated and energetic Teams with financial resources. This funding helps Teams produce promotional items, represent themselves at craft fairs and other local events, or advertise. I started his program one year ago, and must admit that it has not taken off as I thought it might. Therefore, I have decide that it is time to revisit and revise. I remain committed to supporting the Etsy Teams on all levels, but have decided to temporarily suspend the Grant Program effective next month. We will be bringing them back, but I want to do so in a way that will be the most impactful. January grants will still be awarded, but no applications for February will be taken at this time I will keep you posted as the revamped Grant program evolves, and as always, welcome your suggestions and input. NB: I view promo requests as separate form the Grant programs. You can request Etsy promos for your events here: http://www.etsy.com/promo_request.php The Team Emails: As you well know these weekly emails focus very heavily on promoting upcoming Etsy Team events. I think this is important and worthwhile, but can not help but feel that we are preaching to the converted. We need to get these events out to an audience outside of the Teams. Therefore, going forward I will be adding an Etsy Teams event calendar on the soon to be updated Teams hub. If you wish to have an event included, please contact your Team leader. Furthermore, I think the Team events are best promoted off Etsy as well, and think our focus should be on social media channels like Facebook, Twitter, Myspace etc. Developing tools and programs to get these events out and to help you do the same will yield greater results than only including them here. In general, I think these emails should be more about Team news and updates on developments at Etsy, thoughts and opportunities from the outside world, and a view into clever ideas from your colleagues. The next email I send will begin to move more in that direction. Etsy Team General Meetings In the Virtual Labs I also want to take this opportunity to make a few changes to the Etsy Teams general Virtual Labs meeting. As of right now, these meetings are held weekly on Thursdays at noon EST. I'm guessing that most of you do not know this, as attendance is very poor. Therefore, effective immediately, I will be suspending the weekly general Teams meeting. Instead, I will now be scheduling these meetings monthly, and pre-publishing an agenda for each. I will also be changing the time to something more accommodating. The first general Teams chat will be held on February 18th at 7:00 pm. Be there or be square Well folks, there is a fair amount of information here, so I will leave it at that for today. Please understand, I want to make the Etsy Teams program as robust and effective as possible, and that means making some changes to it. I ask that you continue to bear with us as we evolve.
