Etsy News: Billing Clarification & An Apology from Etsy

Etsy News

March 16, 2009

Hello,

This edition of Etsy News will be of special interest to those who have shops on Etsy because it is about billing matters for seller accounts.

This weekend we made a mistake regarding overdue bill notification for Etsy sellers. We enabled a new billing reminder that sent out emails to sellers and displayed a message on the Sign In page. By mistake, these reminders were sent one day early. Along with other recent changes to billing, like enabling sellers to pay their bill with PayPal, this caused confusion within our seller community. We apologize for this mistake and the resulting confusion.

We have decided to remove the message on the Sign In page for overdue accounts and postpone implementing this billing reminder change until later in the spring. We have published an article in Etsy's blog, The Storque to help clarify Etsy's billing process and policies. You can read that article here: http://www.etsy.com/storque/article/3624/

Additionally, Etsy's CEO Maria Thomas has written an apology to our seller community in Etsy's blog, as a response to this weekend's billing issue. Please take a few moments to read her sincere thoughts: http://www.etsy.com/storque/article/3626/

Once again, we are sorry for the confusion, and we aim to serve you better in the future.

Kind regards,
Lauren
Etsy Product Team
