Dear Sellers,

You want your shop to be found, and more importantly, found by the right shopper, right? Sometimes having great work is just not enough. I've gathered tips and tricks to help shoppers discover your hard work.

Why is SEO Important for Your Etsy Shop?

SEO stands for "Search Engine Optimization" and is a way to increase the traffic received from search engines. Noadi, a very helpful Etsy seller, answers this question on her Handmade Business Blog. This article, Why is SEO Important for my Shop?, is a very thorough explanation of SEO and how you can make it work to your benefit.

Don't forget to work on SEO for your blog, too! CraftBoom has pointers for this here.

Get Google to Work for Your Etsy Shop

AprilRobin and TimotheyAdamDesigns have tips for you to optimize your Etsy shop for Google and increase your "PageRank". PageRank is a numeric value that represents how important a page is on the web. Check out the Google PageRank article on Etsy's blog here!

Google base is a way to submit your products to Google's Product Search. (You may have noticed that "Shopping" section on Google.) To schedule uploads from your shop feed to Google Base, you'll need to roll up your tech sleeves a bit. You'll find detailed instructions in the Seller FAQ's in Etsy's Help section.

Web Analytics Recap

Recently, we held a Virtual Lab on Etsy Web Analytics, sorry if you missed it! But if you did, this article just published on the blog can give you a recap and link you to a helpful download of the presentation that was reviewed, Google Analytics For Sellers Guide.

Web Analytics: Now What?

I asked sellers what that they've learned since installing their Etsy web analtyics (great Google Analytics Video here). Here are a few responses:

ShinyAdornments finds her customers "...are arriving from text search and NOT by browsing the categories."

DearGolden says, "People shop at work!! 12 noon and 3pm!"

ImogensGarden learned "..that most of my traffic comes from Twitter. LOL!"

Rathina: "Seeing my most viewed sections really tells me what shoppers are looking for!"

darklingwoods says, "My etsy shop gets more than twice the hits as my blog. I was surprised!"

"I've learned that much of my traffic consists of repeat visitors.", says littlefishstudios.

Seeing where your shoppers are coming from, geographically, can help you market to those areas. Perhaps you can even make sure to list a new item during the middle of their work day? Google offers a free online course in Analytics that covers implementation, administration, and analysis tools. Check it out! Become a pro and take your shop to the next level. Don't forget to shoot me an email if you want to share tips in the Etsy Success newsletter.

xo,
Danielle

P.S. We want to connect your items with the right shoppers, too! Join us today at 1pm EDT in the Virtual Labs where Etsy admin Sean, David and KC will host an informal session on the future of Etsy search. Participants will be given access to a test area to try out different searches with different weightings and compare results. Search questions answered!
