Last week, in Etsy's Virtual Labs, I heard an experienced seller exclaim, "You can always work on your photos!" And I agree, there's always room for improvement. Luckily, there's a lot of info out there to help you improve. I've collected some of my favorite photo how-to's to share with you today.

.1. LIghting Up.
I always suggest natural light, after all, it's cheap! Make sure that natural light isn't too direct though, or you'll come out with photos with harsh shadows and bright spots. If the sun is too direct, try heading for shade or diffuse the light from a window with white fabric. Once you find the right lighting, your photo shoot will go a lot smoother. Need more lighting tips? Check out this Forum post for tips from other Etsy sellers.

.2. Get Featured.
Want to get your work featured in a Treasury, the Etsy Gift Guides, or even by a blog or magazine? My number one tip for you is to work on those photos. Where to start? Check out this post with before and after pics to help visualize how you can make your photos pop: Feature Friendly Photos.

.3. Friends, Pets and Babies.
I love this pet photography article, Etsy Pets in Vogue: Getting the Right Shot. I think these tips can help you when you are photographing not only pets, but babies and immature friends (ha!). Here's another great article that can help you when photographing live models: Shop Makeover Series: Photogenic Collaborations.

.4. Get Balanced.
There's a few fancy settings your camera probably has that you should learn to master. They're really not that hard, and we have a few articles to help you figure these settngs out. The first is white balance, if you set this correctly, your whites will be less yellow and your colors will be true. Next, master the macro mode for crisp, clear, close-ups!

.5. Brighten Up.
Whew! You've already done a lot of work on these photos—but before you upload, make sure your photos are bright enough. Are your whites a little grey? Head on over to this article to learn how to Brighten Your Photos with Paperama.

Best,

Danielle

P.S. Last week I featured a sweet little hand embroidered cuff by Ponderandstitch. Sadly, I linked to the wrong item! You can find that cuff here!
