August 3, 2009

Happy August, Sellers! Summer is almost over; before you know it, the leaves will be changing and shoppers will be on the lookout for holiday gifts. In this newsletter, I've gathered tips to help you plan ahead.

.1. Study up.
Want to know what Etsy's merchandising team will be looking to highlight this month? Check out the latest article from Etsy's Merchandising desk, Hints of Harvest in August.

.2. Get ready for the ghouls!
Let's rock this holiday, Etsians. Get out your fangs, fairy wings and feline inspired merch! Think Halloween is not your style? How about taking a simple icon and working it in a unique way for the holiday? Need some inspiration? Check out all these Halloween posts on The Storque, Etsy's Blog.

.3. There'll be a chill in the air soon.
Start stocking your shops now with scarfs, hats, blankets, fall decor, knit booties, and anything else one might want when the seasons change. Get inspired by autumnal fashion — I found a great slide show by Glamour called The Dos & Don'ts of Fall Fashion, featuring statement necklaces, plaids, bows, velvet and black lace!

.4. Don't get taken by surprise.
Holiday shopping is about 3 months away; I suggest getting ready as soon as possible. There's a lot more to think about than just having the right amount of stock! Promoting, packaging, and custom orders are all important aspects of holiday shopping — make sure you're ready to roll. Here's a series of Holiday How-To's just for sellers!

.5. Get the big projects out of the way.
Always wanted to join an Etsy Team, set up a website, blog, Twitter, or Facebook fan page? Do it now so when the holiday rush hits, you're not still fumbling with your new project while trying to package up all those holiday orders.

Best,

Danielle

P.S. I'll be presenting my talk on Turning Browsers into Buyers again this Friday at 1 p.m. ET. Hope to see you there!

.Call For Artists: One of A Kind Show, Etsy Artists Pavilion
